text message Q & A

One of the most challenging aspects of preparing a sermon comes at the point when you are finished with the exegesis, outline, illustrations, and other structural components.  Often overlooked, it as it this point that good preachers ask themselves, “What objections or questions will arise in response to this text that I need to answer during the course of my sermon?” To ignore this question is to sink into irrelevance and ultimately to miss a great opportunity to capture people’s hearts with your preaching.

A great tool that many churches, including Mars Hill in Seattle and Lifechurch.tv in Oklahoma, are employing is the use of text messaging for Q & A during or after the worship service.  Listeners can text in their questions during the message, and these questions are filtered by a media crew and then passed on to the pastor to answer at the end of his message.

Sound interesting? Here is a great article by Aaron Marshall explaining how your church can implement text questioning – and it’s not as difficult or expensive as you might think.
